Everything You Need To Know About The Golden Summer Edit

If you haven’t been to UpMarket: Golden Summer Edit yet, there’s still time! This pop-up market, curated by the team at BRIKA and foodiepages, is happening in The Oval at Yorkville Village every Wednesday from 11am to 3pm until September 21.

To tell you more about the latest installment of this popular market series, we asked BRIKA’s Alison Goodwin to share some of her top tips for exploring and shopping the market this summer.

Can you tell us about the Golden Summer Edit?

The Golden Summer Edit is our summer edition of UpMarket. It is an opportunity to shop small and shop local to discover your new summer essentials.

What can shoppers expect to see each week?

We have fine jewelry designers, epic handcrafted chocolates, handmade bags by the Indigenous women of Columbia, modern party goods, artisan date butters, stylish collars and waterproof leashes for your fur babies, sustainable basics for your wardrobe, handcrafted tea blends and so much more.

What is new and exciting with this edition of UpMarket?

We have a diverse collection of curated brands—some are brands we have worked with before, while others we are thrilled to be showcasing for the first time. It is the perfect opportunity to curate a delightful summer hostess gift.

Any first-time artisans, makers, bakers or creators that you’d like to highlight?

Aline Wayuu Love offer one-of-a-kind artisanal mochila bags, made by the Wayuu women of Northern Columbia. These are brought to Canada with love by the founder, Aline Nalabandian. As she travelled the world with her family, she fell deeply in love with Columbia and these bright, colourful and beautiful bags. This eventually led to a business that would support and sustain women and girls for whom weaving is one of the few means of earning an income. The bags are spectacular and the perfect summer essential.

Surf Beni has brought her vintage mobile pop-up shop inside with us. This amazing young entrepreneur sells handcrafted jewelry, clothing, home decor and more. Beyond her fun and edgy collection she is showcasing, Beni believes we were born to shine, share our unique gifts with the world, and do all the things that make us happy.

Mellis Chocolate is handcrafted by a duo of Toronto based chocolatiers. Inspired by their experiences across Canada, France and Japan, they believe chocolate is magically transformative and has an innate ability to evoke delight and pleasure in all of us. Whether it be the annual honey harvest from their family cottage, picking and preserving fresh fruit from the summer’s bounty, or baking wholesome treats at home, this dream team has turned their inspiration into spectacularly impressive and delicious creations.
