Event Insider: The Kit’s Live Beautifully Conference

On Wednesday, March 7, The Kit, Toronto Star’s beauty and style media brand, brought a beautiful conference-style event to life in Yorkville Village’s The Oval. More than 150 women were invited to attend an evening of meaningful conversations and panel discussions to celebrate and learn the art of aging with beauty, style and grace. Hosted by Canadian fashion icon, Jeanne Beker, the event brought together leading experts in beauty, fashion, entertainment, and wellness to celebrate the experiences women encounter as they age.

Upon entry into The Oval, guests were privy to fresh juices, glasses of wine, delicious salads, and onsite makeup touch-ups from lead artists at Estée Lauder. To kick-off official programming, The Kit’s editor-in-chief, Laura deCarufel sat down with Dr. Vivien Brown, health expert, leading family physical and author of A Woman’s Guide to Healthy Aging. Attendees learned inside advice on ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle as they age; from Brown’s perspective, it all starts with communication and sociability.

Leading the beauty panel was The Kit’s beauty director, Katherine Lalancette, who sat down with four industry experts in skincare, dermatology and makeup. The key takeaways from these beauty gurus? Confidence is key and sunscreen is always, always the best preventative measure to visible aging.

To further engage the crowd, Yorkville Village teamed up with The Kit’s fashion editor, Jillian Vieira, to host a live spring trend report and speak to wearable runway trends for women. The best part? All items were styled and selected from stores within Yorkville Village, and were available for purchase following the event. Modeled by real women, the six looks were brought to life by stores including TNT, ANDREWS, Judith & Charles, Maska and Jean-Paul Fortin, to demonstrate these lead retailers as the destination for international trends and styles.

Prior to guests leaving (with a gift bag in hand), they had the chance to chat with a few of Beker’s friends in fashion, comedy and acting—including Monica Parker, Wendy Crewson and Wendy Natale—about how they embrace their age, and the lessons they’ve learned along the way.

Through content and collaboration, the event transformed The Oval into a space of elevation, empowerment and encouragement to celebrate the art of living beautifully as women age.
